National Petition & Letter Drive: the Why and the How

The C

ampaign For America’s Health Centers has set a goal of collecting 2 million health center supporter signatures to be delivered to local U.S. Congressional District Offices during the week of November 7-11 in the form of petitions and letters. It is imperative that millions of signatures be delivered in time to make the health center voice heard before the Super Committee reaches a critical deadline of November 23.

The Joint Select Committee on Deficit Reduction, aka the Congressional “Super Committee”, has a November 23 deadline to identify at least $1.5 trillion in deficit reduction over the next decade. The Super Committee must come up with a plan by identifying spending cuts and/or revenue increases. Should cuts in health center funding and major changes to the Medicaid program be passed, there is the very real possibility that health centers will lose the ability to continue to serve all of the 20 million patients they now serve.

With such high stakes, what is your health center doing to collect as many petition signatures and letters of support as possible?

In order to collect 2 million signatures for the November 7-11 Delivery Week, every health center must commit to explaining the importance of this effort and ask patients, staff, board members and community supporters to sign petitions!
